Google Correlate -- technology magic

Google Correlate may not be magic, but I guarantee if you got in your time machine and went back to 1995 to show this off, it would be.   

You would be unanimously named Supreme Magician.

With Correlate, you can take real word events, data other material and quickly see a correlation -- by map or by graph.  It's not perfect mind you.  Your limited in what you can correlate, but there is a lot there to get your interest piqued.

For instance, in the graph above.   It is easy to see that one instance sticks out in the graph below which correlates Theme Parks (by state) with arrests (by state).  

What state is that over in the upper right hand corner?  Clearly it has an abundance of theme parks that is unrivaled.  It also has a lot of arrests.   Take a guess and then go to Correlate to see if you had it right.

On Correlate, type Theme Parks in the search box and then stroll down the list to "arrest"   and choose it.   Voila.  Instant graph. Using the state map graph you will have your answer quickly.

I am sure you guessed it right.
